A New Year at SIBS

Welcome to SIBS members old and new as a new year begins at SIBS Co-op!  SIBS runs concurrently with  DVHS Co-op on Thursdays from 9:00-3:15.  All classes will be held at CLA (Christian Light Assembly), 165 King St. W. in Dundas, except for Gym, which will be held at St. Paul's United Church (DVHS location).  Courses will run September 29-December 15 for the Fall semester; the Winter semester will run January 29-April 12.  Membership for the fall semester is $40 per family.

Below are this year's planned courses.  Welcome to our second exciting year!

French: with Mary Clements of Les Petites Pommes
Fee:  $ 75
Want to have fun in French this fall? Weekly French lessons will be
taught in interesting and fun ways by Mary Clements, who is a recent
grad from the McMaster University French program and who is also the
owner of Les Petites Pommes French Camps! All lessons will be
prepared by Mary using different resources she has made personally or
collected previously and will focus on improving speaking, reading
and writing skills! Our class will keep a weekly journal and homework
will be assigned. If you have any questions please call Mary at

Science: Electricity and Magnetism: with Jill Bruer
Fee:  $35
This course will introduce our kids to the world of electricity, how mankind has harnessedit and developed exciting ways to use it! There will be lots of experiments and inventions
to build , plus each week we will learn about a newscientist who discovered new information about electricity and/or magnets. This course will strive to cover the Ontario Curriculum Grade 6 – electricity
expectations.

Scrapbooking:  with Wendy Sutherland (September 29-October 20)
Fee: $20 (all materials provided including photographs for SIBS students who were in last semester's Aladdin; new students must bring 15-20 of their own photos.)
This short course will enable students to make an accordian-style mini-scrapbook of photos from last spring's SIBS production of Aladdin.  New SIBS students who were not in Aladdin will make a summer photo scrapbook.   Please note that if new SIBS students arrive without photos, they will be unable to participate, so please ensure they have 15-20 summer (or other) photos with them. 

Drama:  with Melanie Rossdeutscher (from October 27 onward)
Students will explore various skills necessary for stage acting through drama games, improvisation, short sketches, script writing, and team-building exercises culminating in an end-of-the-year theatre production (April 20, 2012).
Fee:  $75

Gym:  This will be parent-led again and will involve assorted games and sports.  No fee.
