Exploring the Elements and Principals of Design
Students will learn to use different types of media including sculpture and printmaking, designing art with intention, using elements and principals of design to improve individual creations in the arts. Each class begins with a lesson on a particular element or principal, with examples to illustrate how it is used in well-known works of art. Following the lesson, students will create an original piece of art that utilizes that particular design concept.

Acting for the Stage – The Secret Garden
During this 12-week session, students will learn a variety of skills necessary to bring a play - from first read-through to finished form - to the stage. Characterization, memorization, appropriate use of stage voice, stage directions and movement, cues and timing, how to connect with fellow actors, the handling of props, and backstage etiquette are taught (alongside ample doses of fun), in order to present a polished one-hour play at the Staircase Theatre.

Dates of rehearsals and performances at Staircase Theatre:
April 30 – 9am to 12pm
May 7 - 1pm to 4pm
May 21, 28 – 9am to 12pm
May 29, 2pm – rehearsal and evening performance
May 30, 12pm – afternoon and evening performances

Literature Study .
World War II is a fascinating and horrific piece of our history.  So many ideas and stories surround these years. We will take a closer look at the countries of Ukraine and Finland, through the eyes of teenagers during WWII.  Four novels will form the basis of our study and conversation.  We will take three weeks per book, which will require reading at home, usually between 50 to 75 pages per week.  The four novels are:  The Darkest Evening by William Durbin, The Winter War by William Durbin, Stolen Child by Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch and Making Bombs for Hitler by Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch.

Fitness Training & Sports
Charles will continues to lead students through a fitness training program with the intent to help our kids strengthen and condition their bodies to improve their performance in sports. This semester, class time is extended by half an hour allowing more time to play sports.
