The Christmas shoeboxes were delivered to the Waterloo warehouse from where they will be sent to fifteen children who will be overjoyed when they receive their handcrafted gifts.

Autumn 2014 at DVJC
DVJC found fifteen enthusiastic students enter their doors in September to study classes in Art, Drama, Missions and Gym. All classes except Gym continue to run at CLA with Gym at St. Paul's. Below is our Fall schedule of courses.

Course details:
Exploring the Elements and Principals of Design
Students will learn to use different types of media including sculpture and printmaking, designing art with intention, using elements and principals of design to improve individual creations in the arts. Each class will being with a lesson on a particular element or principal, with examples to illustrate how it is used in well-known works of art. Following the lesson, students will create an original piece or art that utilizes that particular design concept. Students will have two classes to complete each project.
Drama
The basics of drama and theatre will be explored through experiential activities, improv, writing and performing scenes, preparing and performing monologues as well as visits from professionals from the local and international stage.
Samaritan's Christmas Child Shoeboxes
Students will each fill a shoebox with hand-made crafts.
"Operation Christmas Child provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on project of Samaritan's Purse that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas - Jesus Christ - God's greatest gift." -- www.samaritanspurse.ca
Gym
Students will be participate in a fitness training program with the intent to help strengthen and condition their bodies to improve sports performance. Physical activity in soccer and basketball will be incorporated.

Yet Another Prickly Production!
Despite warnings from her hysterical, hyper mother, Briar Rose pricks her finger on the thorns of some roses given to her by that devious thirteenth fairy. As a result, she and the rest of the royal family fall asleep under the evil fairy's curse. A parade of doomed princes fail again and again to free her from the curse. Finally, a prince shows up with his bodyguard, the two-headed troll. Will he be able to rescue Briar Rose and the kingdom from the fairy's curse?

Briar Rose ... The Tale of Sleeping Beauty

Winter 2014
We are off to another semester at DVJC. This winter we start our morning with landscape painting, followed by preparation for our June performance of Briar Rose - A Tale of Sleeping Beauty, scheduled for June 6-7. Immediately following lunch, our time will be split between board games and crafts. The day ends with Gym at St. Paul’s.

Canadian Landscape Painting
In this course students will complete three landscape paintings in acrylic on canvas. Inspiration for the paintings will be taken from the work of Tom Thompson, the Group of Seven and Emily Carr. Traditional painting techniques will be covered and students will come away with quality paintings that they will be proud of! Students will need to bring a paint shirt to class. All other materials will be provided.
Drama
This year's production is Briar Rose - The Tale of Sleeping Beauty. During the semester, Drama is held at CLA. The rehearsals and play schedule ,below, will be held at The Staircase Theatre.
Rehearsals - May 1, 8, 15, 29; June 5 9am - 12pm
Performances - June 6 5pm - 9pm (1 performance)
June 7 12pm - 9pm (2 performances)
A Mix of Things
This part of the day will be split equally between playing board games and crafts. The crafts include felting and making things such as deodorant, lip balm, soap, beeswax and sculpting. Cost for supplies is $20.
Gym
Gym will be held at St. Paul’s where students will participate in hockey, European handball and indoor soccer/volleyball.
